Anatolian Sage

Anatolian Sage [

*Anatolian Sage* and *Mountain Tea* are actually the same plant in the botanical (Latin) world; both are *Salvia fruticosa* (also known as Salvia triloba). In the Mediterranean and Aegean regions, this plant is called "Anatolian Sage," while in the interior regions and some localities it is called "Mountain Tea" or "Apple Tea."

ANATOLIAN SAGE / THREE-LOB SAGE (Salvia triloba / Salvia fruticosa)
1. Strong Anti-inflammatory Effect in Dentistry and Oral Tissues
Anatolian sage has a very special protective and inflammatory cell suppressing effect on oral mucosa and gum cells. How does it do it? Biotechnological research on dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) has revealed that Anatolian sage extracts are the most potent herb in reducing levels of the harmful IL-6 cytokine produced by cells, which is linked to tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-κA), an inflammation-triggering agent. Result: It is a biocompatible, safe, and very potent natural anti-inflammatory agent for gum bleeding, oral ulcers, and dental trauma. For detailed information: PubMed: 29069149

2. Prevents Memory Loss Due to Insomnia (Neuroprotective and Oxidative Stress Balance)
Chronic insomnia and stress damage the hippocampus region of the brain, impairing learning and memory abilities. Anatolian sage can directly block this damage.
How does it do it?** In in vivo neurological studies, subjects suffering from chronic sleep deprivation were given Anatolian sage extract; It has been proven that the plant stabilizes the levels of key antioxidant enzymes in the brain such as SOD, Catalase, and GPx, and completely prevents short/long-term memory loss (by increasing the GSH/GSSG ratio). Result:** It protects brain cells from rusting during periods of intense stress, insomnia, and mental fatigue; it keeps spatial learning and memory sharp. For detailed information:** PubMed: 35929624
3. It Has a Very High Natural Essential Oil and Cineol Content (Respiratory and Mucolytic Power)
The Salvia fruticosa species, which grows in the climate of Anatolia, has a much more dominant respiratory-relieving component compared to medicinal sage.
How Does It Do It? In phytochemical analyses performed on sage grown and harvested under Anatolian conditions, it was determined that the plant contains over 2% pure essential oil, and 43.07% of this oil consists of the 1,8-cineole (eucalyptol) compound, which directly opens the respiratory tract. Conclusion: It has a very high capacity to thin phlegm and relieve airway congestion in conditions such as lung congestion, asthma, and bronchitis. 4. Breaks Down Bacteria' Protective Armor (Strong Anti-biofilm Activity)
When bacteria settle in the body, they produce a sticky shield called "biofilm" to protect themselves from antibiotics. Anatolian sage is adept at overcoming this shield.
How does it do it? In pharmacological screenings conducted on antibiotic-resistant bacteria, it has been clinically reported that the essential oils of Anatolian sage prevent pathogenic microorganisms from forming a biofilm layer by 95% (breaking their disease-causing power). Conclusion: It accelerates healing by breaking down bacterial resistance in chronic and stubborn infections that are resistant to antibiotics. 5. Protects Cells with Newly Discovered Flavonoids (Unique Phytochemical Structure)
Anatolian sage contains very special and new compounds not found in other sage species in the world.
How does it do it? In deep chromatographic research on the plant, 5 different special flavonoids, hydrocarbons and triterpenes, primarily 8-methoxygenistein, 7-O-alpha-L-rhamnoside and 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside, which were isolated for the first time in the scientific world in Anatolian sage, were detected. These substances are the main elements that give the plant its medicinal value. Result: Unlike ordinary herbal teas, it has a unique molecular structure that prevents cellular mutations and repairs tissues.

Consumption Summary:
Since mountain tea and Anatolian sage are botanically twins (the same plant), brewing instructions (5-7 minutes brewing) and safety precautions (pregnant women should absolutely not use them) apply exactly the same.
